For years, since the beginning of Alien Force, there has been an endless debate over which series was the best, and which was the worst. Some belive that old school is cool and go with the Original Series. Some liked the maturity and tension of the AF/UA duo. Others like the new and high-quality action of Omniverse. But I'm not here to get into another endless argument over which series was the best.
I'm here to talk about the GAMES.
I have loved almost all of the Ben 10 video games, from the dawn in good old Ben 10: Protector of Earth, the mysterious adventure in Ben 10: Alien Force, and the dynamic action of Vilgax Attacks and Cosmic Destruction. But what I DON'T like is the trememdous fall Ben 10 video games took as soon as they came out with the video game for Ben 10: Omniverse, and now its new sequel. There are a lot of reasons why.
For one thing, look at the evolution of one of my favorite aliens, Swampfire:
In Ben 10: Alien Force - The Video Game, Swampfire made his cameo. A poorly graphitized but still applicable character. This was especially good considering Ben 10 had less funding than it did now.
Now take a look at his enhanced version and Ultimate Form from Ben 10: Vilgax Attacks and Ben 10: Cosmic Destruction.
The graphics that composed this duo of games was not only stunning, but unexpected and exciting.
Now get a load of THIS. Is it a bug? Is it a blur? NO! It's SWAMPFIRE! He now has no face, plastic-like graphics around his legs, and shoots fire that looks like red ice cream.
I'm sorry if that's not the strongest claim as to why the Omniverse video game was terrible compared to the others, but it's only one of them.
The graphics severely went down from what Cosmic Destruction presented to us, but the gameplay also became less sophisticated. Challenges became more simple, levels shorter, storylines less impressive. If Ultimate Alien was able to make such a great game, why didn't Omniverse?
The most incredible element in the entirety of Cosmic Destruction was the cutscene graphics. Albedo Way Big? AMAZING! But the cutscenes in Ben 10: Omniverse are choppy - characters can't move their mouths, they have no personality, and plus there is no real way to tell what's going on.
I don't want to be a hater, but I really think the Omniverse video game could have been better, especially with all of the funding and capability the Ben 10 Franchise has.
Thank you.
