– Grey Matter.[1]

Grey Matter is the Omnitrix's DNA sample of a Galvan from the planet Galvan Prime.

Appearance[]

Grey Matter is a grey-skinned, frog-like, bipedal alien who is only 5 inches tall[CN 1] He has large, orange eyes, with rectangular pupils. He wears a green jumpsuit with a black stripe going down the middle of the chest, which connects to black rings around his neck and waist, black rings around his wrists, and black coloring from the knees down.

Grey Matter wears the Omnitrix symbol on his back.

Powers and Abilities[]

Grey Matter's small size belies his great calculative and technical intellect. Grey Matter's mind is able to generate energies that lead to accelerated synaptic activity,[DR 1] allowing him to understand the functions or components of any device at a glance.[2][3] He is able to modify technology to suit his needs, such as when he converted one of Vilgax's Drones into a glider.[4]

Grey Matter's intellect goes beyond technology; his ability to visualize calculations and formulate strategies at a glance can give him the upper hand in combat,[3][5] and he has a great understanding of the biology of living creatures.[1]

Grey Matter's size allows him to squeeze into small spaces,[6] and he can climb walls thanks to micro suction cups on his skin.[merch 1][7]

Grey Matter possesses enhanced jumping, being able to bound between various pieces of airborne debris.[8]

Grey Matter can breathe underwater due to having gills,[9][10] making him amphibious.[8]

Weaknesses[]

Grey Matter's small stature makes him ill-suited for physical battle,[8] so he must outsmart his enemies in a fight.

Grey Matter is vulnerable to fire.[5]

Because he is light, Grey Matter can easily be blown back by strong winds.[7]

Ben 10[]

Grey Matter is a playable alien character in the game. He is initially unavailable, but is unlocked towards the end of the The City level.

Grey Matter is equipped with a mechanical backpack that assists him in combat, being able to fire energy blasts and vortices that drag enemies near.

Grey Matter's small size allows him to enter small areas that the rest of Ben's aliens, and Ben himself, are unable to access.

Grey Matter's Ultimate Ability consists of him modifying his backpack to shrink enemies down to a microscopic level, then stepping on them.

Grey Matter is vital for progression on the The City, the The Funhouse, the The Scrapyard and the The Hive levels of the game.

Trivia[]

  • Grey Matter's outfit is modelled after the one worn in the original series, but with the white portion recolored green to match the outfit worn in Omniverse. The black ring around his waist also bears similarity to the latter outfit.
  • Despite being replaced with Slapback beginning in Season 3, it was hinted by Duncan Rouleau that Grey Matter would return in the future,[DR 2] foreshadowing his appearance in Ben Gen 10.
    • Ben could also regain access to Grey Matter, given how he has learned how to access the entire cache of Omnitrix aliens by cycling in new chambers from Azmuth.[DR 3][11]
    • Had Grey Matter appeared in Season 4, his Omni-Kix and Omni-Naut forms would both resemble big mech suits.[DR 4][DR 5]
  • Grey Matter is Montserrat Hernandez's favorite alien.[MH 1]
  • It's implied that Grey Matter was added back to the active playlist during Ben Gen 10, as his DNA pod can be seen briefly in the loading chamber while Rex Salazar was removing his nanites from the Omnitrix.
  • Grey Matter's orange eyes are reminiscent of those his classic continuity counterpart had in the original series theme song.
