Framed is the third episode of the second season of Ben 10, and the sixteenth episode overall.

Synopsis[]

Kevin 11 is back and out for revenge. And with the ability to shape-shift into several of Ben's alien heroes, he's been framing Ben for his crimes.[CN 1]

Plot[]

The Tennysons wait in a long line to buy a newly released game, a game that Ben refers to as Sumo Slammers 2.1. Gwen says that he already has the game, but Ben explains that it's version 2.1 and that there is a big difference, he can change his character's color anytime during a match. Gwen can't wait any longer and insists that they should go somewhere else. So, they decide to enter a nearby bookstore. Later, as they come back out of the store, Gwen wonders how Ben's doing after waiting for so long. The line is no longer there, but Four Arms comes out and goes on a rampage, even attacking the police. Gwen and Max are shocked, as they believe that Ben is to blame. The Special Alien Containment Team arrives and prepare to defeat Four Arms. Before doing so, Gwen runs up to him and tries to stop him. With no luck, he continues and ends up being shot by the SACT. Unfortunately, Four Arms leaps off and leaves them behind.

At the RV, Gwen is infuriated by Ben's recent actions over a video game. Ben appears to be calm and quiet as he plays his new game. While Gwen interrogates Ben, he says that he has been at the RV the whole time. Gwen tries to take the information out of him by showing him a clip of Four Arms destroying the city as evidence. Max seems to be on Ben's side, though agrees that Gwen has a good point. So, Ben tries to prove her wrong by going out to the city to find clues to solve the mystery.

Ben spots Four Arms in an alleyway, and he goes after him. He attempts to activate the Omnitrix to transform into XLR8, though no luck. Ben finds Four Arms at the top of the US Mint building and decides to go after him. Inside, Gwen and Max can't seem to find Ben anywhere, but they soon find Heatblast attacking the place. Gwen insists that he should stop what he's doing. Heatblast doesn't listen to her order. Out of nowhere, Ben appears behind her. She realizes that Ben is telling the truth about the aliens impersonating him. Heatblast attempts to attack her, but Ben transforms into Diamondhead to protect her.

Diamondhead prepares to fight Heatblast, but he's stopped by coins that were held in a large container above him. As Heatblast arrives before him, he reveals his true identity. It is Kevin Levin, the young sociopath Ben met earlier in the summer. He explains that the last time they met, he had absorbed enough of the energy from the Omnitrix that he now has access to all of Ben's alien forms, but at the cost of losing access to his original form for more than a few minutes at a time. He now seeks to use his powers to ruin Ben's reputation as a hero. Kevin says that Ben will be blamed for his crimes.

Kevin transforms into Stinkfly and flies away, leaving Diamondhead behind with the SACT. Diamondhead tries to explain that he's not the one responsible for Kevin's actions. They don't believe him, so Gwen comes by to back his story up. Diamondhead has no other choice but to fight. As he runs off, he looks for an area to hide. Two soldiers find him and shoot him, but he counters by knocking the platform down. As he continues to find a way out, he's again detected, but this time, he's trapped between two teams of SACT agents. To make matters worse, the Omnitrix is about to time out. As Diamondhead brainstorms for an idea, he jumps down and reverts back to Ben just in time. Ben fakes an act by appearing to protect himself from Diamondhead.

As Ben returns to Gwen and Max, Gwen acts relieved to see Ben again. The SACT leader, Lieutenant Steel, is suspicious of Ben's watch, though he lets them through, but orders his troops to follow them, just in case. Later, in the RV, the Tennysons discuss what's happened so far. Gwen finds news headlines in the newspaper, discovering that Kevin has been busy using Ben's alien forms to wreak havoc in major cities such as Tallahassee, Chicago, and Barstow.

All of a sudden, a trolley train is shown heading down the street, and Ben decides to help out. It transpires that Kevin as Upgrade has taken control of the cable car. Ben tries to transform into Upgrade himself, but he transforms into Wildmutt instead. Wildmutt runs to rescue the trolley train and it seems that the SACT have been tracking them.

The driver tries to stop the car with the brake, but Upgrade pulls it out, which makes their situation worse. Wildmutt is behind them and eventually gets on top of the car. Upgrade tries to get him off, though Wildmutt is able to get inside. Behind the car, Max pilots the RV, transformed into its aerodynamic form. Inside the car, Upgrade gets Wildmutt down and tries to get away with crashing the car by leaving as Stinkfly. The car continues to move and is headed to a nearby pier. Max gets close enough and tells Wildmutt to get on the RV to throw a grappling hook to put on the car. Max does all he can do to break the movements. Before the car falls to its doom, Max and Wildmutt are able to save everyone in it.

At night, the RV stops in a parking lot. Max and Gwen come out to pick Ben up after the incident. In an unfortunate situation, the SACT is there to take the Tennysons down, after seeing that they were involved with the alien business. Lt. Steel continues to be suspicious of the Omnitrix, but before doing anything else, they receive a report that there's a crystal alien (Kevin as Diamondhead) on the loose. Steel lets them go but says he isn't done with them yet.

Steel goes down to the bridge to deal with Diamondhead, but he's no match for him. Ben as Four Arms is there in time to save him. As he begins to fight Diamondhead, the SACT readies their weapon, a concussion bazooka. Gwen says that they shouldn't, because it might hit Four Arms who is trying to help. Steel gives an order to his troops not to shoot until he says so. Diamondhead transforms into Heatblast, and has an advantage for a short while. Four Arms knocks him into the air, but he transforms into Stinkfly. Before Stinkfly can attack Four Arms, he transforms back into Kevin. Four Arms comes up to him, readying a punch, and smashes his fist into the ground, deliberately missing Kevin's head. Kevin tells Four Arms to get back and fight, claiming not to be through with him. However, Four Arms speaks out against fighting Kevin, claiming that he isn't worth it, and he never was. With that, Kevin's hate and rage cause his ability to regulate the absorbed power to fail altogether, causing him to mutate into a misshapen, chaotic amalgam of the Omnitrix aliens, called Kevin 11. This time, Kevin 11 is completely unable to return to normal which only intensifies his hate and grudge against Ben blaming him for making him like this. After fighting Four Arms, Steel commands his men to shoot Kevin 11. With this, they successfully take him down and he falls from the top of the bridge, down to the water. Steel realizes that Four Arms isn't an enemy and Four Arms leaves him behind.

As the Tennysons drive off to their next destination, Steel stops them to have a talk with them. He wonders why aliens show up all of a sudden when they're there, but he lets them go.

As they drive off, Kevin 11's status is unknown, but as a close-up of the dark ocean shows the small area where he fell, water starts bubbling.

Quotes

Gwen: Yo! Hothead! Back off the fireworks before somebody gets really hurt! Now, if you take responsibility for all the wacko stuff you've been doing lately, I'm sure we can help you.
(Ben suddenly arrives at Max's side.)
Ben: Gwen!
Gwen: Not now, dweeb! Can't you see I gotta deal with- (seeing him behind her) Ben?!? (She backs up from the Heatblast.) S-So who are you?
Heatblast: Me? I'm a hottie! Can't you tell...?
(The Heatblast shoots fire. Just before it reaches her, Ben swoops in as Diamondhead to block the blast.)
Diamondhead: Now do you believe me?

Quotes

Diamondhead: Still trying to be a goody-two-shoes, Ben? Lemme guess, you just wanna help me! (He laughs to himself.)
Four Arms: You had plenty of chances to get help, but you always messed it up. This time, you're getting what you deserve.
Diamondhead: (coy) Aww, does this mean that we're not best buddies anymore?

Quotes

Kevin: (strained) Get back here and fight, Tennyson! I'm not through with you yet!
Four Arms: But I'm through with you. You're not worth it. You never were... (Kevin strains himself in anger. His body starts to change. His arm bubbles, growing in size and cracking with lava underneath. His knees turn red and rip his shorts. A striped tail sprouts out of his rear. Two green wings cut themselves out of his hunched, swelling back. His skin starts turning red.)
Kevin: (Kevin screams out in immense pain, as his transformation completes.)
(The scream alerts Four Arms, Steel, even Gwen and Max at the bottom.)
Kevin: (stands up, huffing)
Four Arms: Huh?
(Kevin has completely transformed. He is a giant, complicated amalgam of all the 10 aliens in the Omnitrix. He looks at his four hands and clenches them, straining, trying to turn back. While it looks like he could succeed, he can't.)
Kevin 11: Uh, I- (He tries again.) I can't change back... I'm stuck like this. LOOK AT WHAT YOU'VE DONE!
Four Arms: Oh, man! Is there anything I'm not going to get blamed for today?

Continuity[]

  • Kevin recalls the incidents from Kevin 11 while explaining his condition to Ben.
  • Ben mentions Tetrax (albeit not by his name), whom he met in Hunted when he is confronted by Gwen and Max about Four Arms trashing the video game store.

Allusions[]

Errors[]

  • In many shots, the Omnitrix's dial faces the wrong way.
  • Near the beginning of the episode, the Omnitrix's dial is white and green instead of grey and green.
  • Kevin's versions of the aliens have Ben's clothing for some reason.
  • A newspaper shows that Ripjaws' black patch of clothing is on the right side, not the left as it should have been.
  • For a split second, Diamondhead's foot is shown to be erroneously superimposed over Gwen's.
  • In Kevin 11, Kevin was in his Tetramand form when he got hit by the feedback from the Omnitrix. However, in this episode, he is shown to be human form in the flashback.
  • For an instant, the lines on the driver's watch are missing.

Trivia[]

  • Although not mentioned, Kevin's alien transformations have another difference from Ben's transformations (other than lacking the Omnitrix symbol on the body parts it usually appears on) - their color schemes are a shade darker than Ben's forms, with some being more noticeable (e.g. Four Arms, Heatblast, and Stinkfly) and others being less noticeable (e.g. Upgrade and Diamondhead).
  • Max reveals that he has stock car driving experience.
  • The BART on the tram driver's badge stands for Bay Area Rapid Transit, a metro that runs through San Francisco.
