I am Charmcaster! Daughter of Spellbinder, conqueror of Addwaitya, ruler of Legerdomain, and I will not be denied-

– Charmcaster before being teleported away by Zs'Skayr.[2]

Hope,[6] better known as Charmcaster, is a powerful human sorceress from Legerdomain, and a recurring villain in the Ben 10 franchise as the niece and former apprentice of Hex.

Appearance[]

In the Original Series, Charmcaster wore a magenta coat with purple at the ends. Underneath, she wore purple long heeled boots with black straps around them. She wore her magical bag around her waist. Charmcaster wore her long silver hair in a low ponytail, and had light purple and pinkish eyes, along with purple lipstick. She also wore two earrings on each ear.

In Alien Force and Ultimate Alien, Charmcaster wore a purple dress with a pink ribbon around her waist and a black crown on her head. She also wore black fingerless gloves. At the top of her dress, she had a cerise pink gem with a golden border, and she also wore long dark purple flat boots. She wore her long silver hair laid out that extended to her thighs, orchid eyes, and very dark purple lipstick. She looked slightly thinner and taller, and her ears were pointed lacking the earrings this time.

In Omniverse, Charmcaster returns to a color scheme resembling her Original Series appearance, while retaining the skirt and some thematic elements from her Alien Force/Ultimate Alien appearance. Her stark white hair is now framed with purple highlights, and like the Original Series, she has her hair in a ponytail. She wears gothic "Eye of Horus" styled eye makeup and golden earrings.[DJW 1] Her dark-purple boots are also heeled again.

Charmcaster has developed the ability to merge with her Rock Monsters to create a secondary armored form, that retains the stone texture and color of her creatures.[DJW 2]

Personality[]

Charmcaster has had a tough life, but she is family, and I believe there is good in her... somewhere.

Hex.[7]

Charmcaster is a complex person who grew up without the guidance of her father. Her only role model was her uncle Hex, which had caused her to develop a delinquent attitude and a lust for power. Charmcaster had spent some time in Juvenile Hall, being the target of bullies,[3] which only made growing up more difficult. She has been shown to miss her father dearly, going so far as to sacrifice 600,000 souls in Legerdomain (including those of Ben, Gwen, and Kevin) to bring him back to life.[6]

To compensate for her insecurities, Charmcaster acts very arrogantly and ego-driven, striving to prove her superiority over others, Gwen above all, whose magical talents and power she is highly jealous of. She also holds resentment towards Gwen for stealing her spellbook.[3]

Despite her faults, Charmcaster can be friendly and sociable when she feels like it. This was especially seen when she teamed up with Ben's team in Legerdomain[8] and Anur Transyl.[2] She also showed that she has some morals when she saved a kid from being hit by a truck while in disguised as Caroline.[1] In the former instance, she had also relaxed and had more of a sense of humor than before, only dropping it when under the influence of the Alpha Rune's power. She has also become more childish than before, with both the cheerful innocence and the petty cruelty that comes along with it.

History[]

Background[]

Charmcaster was born on Zoraster,[pop-up 1][9] a location in Legerdomain,[DM 2] under the name Hope.[6] Her father, Spellbinder, was at war with Addwaitya at the time, and helped her and his brother Hex escape safely to Earth, but failed in battle and was murdered by Addwaitya.

Growing up, Charmcaster had always dreamed of becoming a great sorceress.[8]

Ben 10[]

In Charmcaster's debut appearance, Tough Luck, she busted Hex out of prison and assisted him in trying to steal the Lost Keystone of Bezel which can re-create the other five charms to greatly strengthen and increase Hex's abilities. She managed to trick Gwen by putting on an act about Hex forcing her to help him, only to swipe the Keystone while hugging Gwen. She then gave Hex the Keystone. In the end, it was revealed that Hex needed the Keystone to recreate the five Charms of Bezel, and that she was planning to take their power for herself, but failed, as did Hex.

Nega (105)

Charmcaster in the Original Series

Charmcaster returned in A Change of Face. She attempted a body swap spell with Ben as Stinkfly in Salem, Massachusetts. She was hoping to take control of the Omnitrix and combine its powers with her magic in order to become invincible. Her efforts failed, however, as her attempts only ended in swapping with Gwen. On her second try, she was returned to her normal body while Ben and Gwen were swapped, and the third time resulted in returning Ben and Gwen to their normal bodies. She was arrested at the end of the episode, and her bag was tossed into the harbor. She was last seen in juvie, where she was about to be beaten up by Pinky and Missy, whom Gwen angered during her stay in Charmcaster's body. Gwen obtained her spellbook, and kept it as a souvenir, eventually learning to use it.

Charmcaster somehow escaped and made a cameo appearance at the end of Don't Drink the Water, where she was seen taunting her uncle Hex (who had been reduced in age to an infant by the waters of the Fountain of Youth) and saying that she would be giving the orders now.

Charmcaster's final appearance in the Original Series was in Ben 10 vs. the Negative 10 as part of the Negative 10. Unlike her partners, however, Charmcaster was only focused on defeating Gwen (as opposed to Ben like everyone else was). She was also shown to have a small rivalry with fellow Negative 10 member Rojo. Eventually, she and the rest of her team were beaten and arrested.

Alien Force[]

ICW (108)

Charmcaster in Alien Force

Charmcaster returned in In Charm's Way, where she sent one of her Rock Monsters to attack Ben, Gwen, and Kevin while they were spending the day at the beach. The Rock Monsters appeared to be immune to Gwen's mana attacks and proceeded to oust Kevin. Just as Ben was about to take down the Rock Monster, a magical portal opened up and sucked it away. It was later shown that Charmcaster was hiding in a nearby cave watching the events unfold. After voicing her deep hatred for Gwen and her plan to take something precious from her, since Gwen stole her spellbook, Charmcaster used a spell that transformed her into a blonde teenage girl named Caroline as part of her plan to charm and hypnotize Kevin.

Charmcaster set her plan into motion after saving a child from being killed by a truck. Afterwards, she and Kevin journeyed to the beach where she revealed a partially false life story while removing the ID Mask that concealed Kevin's mutant form, clearly growing jealous of Gwen when Kevin mentioned "You think you can do magic? She's made of magic". She then kissed him, putting him under her hypnotic influence through a spell, and then ordered him to bring Gwen to the planetarium before midnight where she could drain Gwen's magical and Anodite powers. To fortify or deepen her hypnotic control over Kevin, she also granted him a magic amulet. Kevin was broken free from Charmcaster's influence spell after the amulet was broken by Ben. After the trio arrived at the Planetarium at Gwen's request, Charmcaster sent her Rock Monsters to deal with Ben and Kevin while she dealt with Gwen herself. Upon meeting, Charmcaster gloated sarcastically at Gwen's hairdo then engaged her in a short magical duel, in which Gwen was led to stand in the middle of a circle of runes that were placed directly under the sky panel. After luring Gwen into the trap, Charmcaster opened the runes and the sky panel which exposed Gwen to the full blaze of the moonlight and brought her to her knees. This helped Charmcaster in fully subduing Gwen. She then drained Gwen of all her magic and transferred it to herself. Confident that she had won, Charmcaster retreated with her two surviving rock minions while Ben and Kevin went to Gwen's aid instead of pursuing her.

After a short argument with Gwen, Kevin tricked Charmcaster into meeting him on top of a tall building where he lured her with a lie about his loyalty to Ben and that Gwen still had power left, angering Charmcaster even further. The duo later showed up at Mr Smoothy, where Ben and Gwen were drinking smoothies. After scanning Gwen, Charmcaster realized that Gwen had no power left and that Kevin managed to trick her. She used a spell to bring a Mr. Smoothy sign to life as well as controlled a parked van to kill Kevin and Ben, while her Rock Monsters attempted to annihilate Gwen, who mocked Charmcaster and proceeded to challenge her to a one-on-one fistfight, which Charmcaster nonchalantly turned down, opting to kill Gwen with a bolt of mana. However, Gwen turned the tables on Charmcaster by reciting one of her spells and reabsorbed her stolen Anodite powers from Charmcaster, much to Charmcaster's horror. Powerless, Charmcaster got help from her Rock Monsters to make one last stand against Gwen. Charmcaster was finally defeated after Gwen summoned a dimensional vortex which sucked her and her Rock Monsters away.

Charmcaster appeared in Time Heals with her uncle Hex. In this episode, Hex was awakened by a disturbance in their home late at night, only for Charmcaster to convince him to return to bed. The disturbance was actually Gwen, who had snuck in to steal one of their books that had a spell that would allow for her to travel back in time in order to stop Kevin's mutation.

Ultimate Alien[]

HEWTL (371)

Charmcaster in Ultimate Alien

Charmcaster returned in Hit 'Em Where They Live, where she assisted Zombozo and Vulkanus in a plot to kidnap Ben's mother. She was defeated by Kevin, who almost caused a rollercoaster to crash on her (Charmcaster escaped before getting hit); Kevin made sure she was not killed as he had promised Gwen he would not finish off his opponent.

In Where the Magic Happens, Charmcaster was brought back to her home, Yawatacsip ("Legerdomain" as the natives refer to it) to bring help to Gwen and the team. In this episode, much was revealed about Charmcaster's past and her feelings toward Gwen. It was shown that Charmcaster had always dreamed of becoming a great sorceress, saying that she had studied magic her whole life but found it extremely unbelievable that Gwen could just come out of nowhere, steal her spellbook and become so strong and powerful and suddenly "out-magic" her. It is also revealed that when she was a child, her father Spellbinder and her people were at war with Addwaitya, the greatest magical, mystic being that had ever lived. Her father helped her and Hex escape safely to Earth, but failed in battle and was murdered by Addwaitya. Charmcaster's villainous actions were all to gain more and more power so that she could return to Legerdomain and defeat Addwaitya. Charmcaster moved past her feelings of resentment toward Gwen and actually developed a friendship with her, chiefly due to learning that the two of them were actually stronger and more powerful as a team than individually; her knowledge of magic coupled with Gwen's Anodite powers. She even ended up putting her life on the line, buying time for the trio to escape, leaving herself behind in Legerdomain with the hopes of defeating Addwaitya at last.

In Enemy of My Frenemy, Charmcaster had become corrupted with power during her time fighting for Legerdomain and relapsed into her evil ways when the denizens she had fought to free from Addwaitya turned on her and fought a massive civil war to decide who would become the new ruler; a war which Charmcaster won. Building a device that drains the souls out of living things, she enacted a plan to drain the life force of her world in order to perform a ritual that would bring her father Spellbinder back to life. Ben, Gwen, and Kevin attempted to stop her, but their souls were sucked out as well. When Spellbinder was resurrected, he revealed that Charmcaster's real name is Hope. Horrified at the lengths his daughter had gone to in order to bring him back, he said he couldn't stay at the cost of so many souls. Telling his daughter that he loved her, he faded away, making the ritual null and void and returning all souls back to where they belonged. Charmcaster broke down crying, not knowing what to do with her life now. Out of pity, Ben, Gwen, and Kevin agreed not to arrest the heartbroken Charmcaster and departed from Legerdomain.

In Couples Retreat, Charmcaster fell in love with Darkstar when he attempted to get into Legerdomain. She supplied him with a lot of mana when they kissed multiple times and allowed him to go back to Earth to take revenge upon "his enemies", not knowing this to be Ben, Gwen and Kevin. She also revealed her true name, Hope, to him. When Ben, Gwen, and Kevin arrived at her castle, she fought Gwen while Ben and Kevin took on Darkstar. She became enraged when she learned Darkstar and Gwen once dated. Gwen, concerned about Charmcaster, tried to convince her that Darkstar was merely using her, but Hope seemed hopelessly deluded. However, just as Darkstar offered her the chance to team up with him and conquer Earth, she realized that Gwen might be right and asked Darkstar why he never called her by her real name, and if he even remembers it. After Darkstar didn't, Hope became so enraged that her screams destroyed her castle, then drained Darkstar's powers and banished him from Legerdomain, leaving him at the mercy of Ben, Gwen, and Kevin waiting to beat him up. Charmcaster was last seen at the ruins of her castle, sadly gazing down upon Darkstar's helmet.

Omniverse[]

MI (646)

Charmcaster after capturing Darkstar

By the time of the Omniverse series, she is gradually becoming corrupted again, this time partially due to an outside influence. Charmcaster made an appearance in Mystery, Incorporeal where she appeared driving the police car carrying Darkstar disguised as a police officer. When asked if she had forgiven him, she responded by turning him into a totem.

In Charmed, I'm Sure, Charmcaster appeared on Anur Transyl to take back the Alpha Rune, which had been stolen by Zs'Skayr. She teamed up with Ben, Rook Blonko, and Hobble (who had a crush on her) to get it back. When they reached Zs'Skayr, he gave the Rune back willingly since he had already drained it of much of its power. Charmcaster put the Rune on and went mad with its power, summoning Rock Monsters that she turned into battle armor for herself. She suddenly turned on Ben and attacked him, but she was defeated when Hobble threw the magical artifacts in Rook's arsenal at her, which destroyed her armor. Rook then used a teleportation spell from Gwen's spellbook to teleport her back to Legerdomain. In Legerdomain, it was revealed that Charmcaster betrayed Ben under the advice of Addwaitya, who had been turned into a stone totem that was kept in her bag along with Darkstar, both of whom she had been speaking with all episode (leading others to believe her to be crazy since only she could hear them). Addwaitya assured her that she will be successful next time, to which Charmcaster threatened him to remember that she controlled him now, not the other way around. When she asked why she shouldn't just smash both of them, Darkstar whispered a plan into her ear that she evidently liked.

In Charm School, Charmcaster attended Friedkin University at Hex's word, hoping that the two of them could be closer. However, Charmcaster only came to Friedkin University to obtain a powerful artifact known as the Staff of Ages. Charmcaster's first attempt that getting the Staff of Ages was a failure due to Hex being powerful in his library. However, Charmcaster managed to turn Hex into a totem after impersonating Professor Xagliv. Charmcaster obtained the Staff of Ages from a book in Hex's library but it was soon taken away by Gwen. Charmcaster managed to take back the Staff of Ages and completely overwhelm Gwen due to Charmcaster possessing Hex while in his library. Charmcaster continued to fight Gwen until Ben as Ghostfreak joined in the fight along with Kevin, Rook, and Zed. Charmcaster summoned some rock bats and had them go after Kevin, Rook, and Zed while Charmcaster went after Gwen and Ghostfreak. Charmcaster easily defeated Ghostfreak and sent him flying into the library. However, Charmcaster was then outmatched by Gwen who took back the Hex totem and was more powerful in the library. Charmcaster lost the Staff of Ages and was sent back to Legerdomain.

In Third Time's a Charm, Charmcaster lured Gwen to Legerdomain and turned her into a totem. When she returned to the library at Friedkin University, she learned of Bezel's presence there and tried to take his power. She succeeded when she turned him into a totem, and then attempted to destroy Ben, Rook and Kevin, even transforming into a dragon. Ben and Gwen tricked her into getting turned into a totem and sealed into her own bag, which she declared a temporary setback and vowed revenge. Gwen kept Charmcaster, still inside the bag, in her headquarters and was hopeful that under these circumstances the two of them can finally be friends.

Charmcaster appeared, no longer a totem, as one of the many female contestants vying to marry Ben in The Most Dangerous Game Show. She lost in the third round when she flew across a lava pit only to crashland on a floating rock when a lava bubble burst dangerously close to her. She was then transported to the Null Void along with the other losers, until Ben arrived to set them free. Charmcaster, along with the other girls, helped to save Ben from the Way Bads before returning to Earth to help him face Charles Zenith.

Following The Most Dangerous Game Show, Charmcaster probably got magically zapped back into her bag.[DJW 3]

Powers and Abilities[]

Like her uncle, Charmcaster depends on magic to fight. Charmcaster is highly skilled in various magical and mystical spells, although it is clear that because of her inexperience, she is not as strong and powerful as her uncle.

Similar to Gwen, Charmcaster can control the mana around her but she does so using spells and incantations. She uses her power to conjure and control a small army of Rock Monsters. She can also levitate, perform telekinesis, teleport, open portals either for viewing or transport, manipulate the elements, and transform herself into a dragon. Charmcaster can alter her appearance, such as when she assumed the form of Caroline. When Charmcaster kissed Kevin, she induced him into some sort of hypnotic trance where she apparently had full control and was able to influence his subconscious mind. This indicates that she is capable of mind control.

Charmcaster's mana has a lightning-like effect and is colored white. An interesting fact is that when creating magical attacks, the large sphere that forms on her hand is atom shaped as two thin rings can be seen.

Equipment[]

Charmcaster has a magic bag from which she can draw all manner of magical mystical items, such as magical explosives in shades of glowing purple, throwing purple glowing blades, or even a variety of clay animals which she can magically enlarge and animate to do her bidding.

Although small, the bag seems to have something of a pocket dimension inside-basically a magic satchel-allowing Charmcaster to store a wide variety things within it that logically should not fit. At one point, it produces Hex's own magic staff, an item that is at least four feet tall. The bag also appears to have some degree of sentience, as it found its way back to Charmcaster under its own power.

Charmcaster possessed a miniature dark purple and gold-striped spellbook hidden in her coat until 10-year-old Gwen took it as a keepsake.[3]

Prior to Enemy of My Frenemy, Charmcaster took over and ruled Legerdomain. She possessed the Alpha Rune, the most powerful magical artifact ever. With it she was strong enough to defeat Addwaitya, Gwen, Kevin and Ben easily, change the true name of Legerdomain every few seconds, and it also made her capable of calling the Old One to revive her father. While she still had godlike power over the realm,[4] she had stopped visibly wearing the Alpha Rune.

She recently has a staff that is similar to her uncle's that she can use to emit mana blasts.

Hex asking Charmcaster to give up her evil ways

Hex raised Charmcaster.[DM 3] Their relationship is complicated, but they do care about each other, after a fashion.[DM 4]

In her first appearance, he treated her more like a servant, and bossed her around, demanding she respect him, and always do as he says. This caused her to grow quite rebellious, as she later turned against him by attempting to steal the Charms of Bezel all to herself.

In Charm School, Charmcaster appeared at Friedkin University and demanded that he give her the Staff of Ages. When he refused, she turned him into one of her totems, therefore, absorbing his magic as well as gaining control over his library.

Spellbinder[]

In Enemy of My Frenemy, Charmcaster enacted a plan to drain the life force of her world in order to perform a ritual that would bring her father Spellbinder back to life. Ben, Gwen, and Kevin attempted to stop her, but their souls were sucked out as well. When Spellbinder was resurrected, he was horrified at the lengths his daughter had gone to in order to bring him back. He said he couldn't stay at the cost of so many souls. Darkstar[]

CR (171)

Charmcaster and Darkstar's first kiss

In Couples Retreat, after Darkstar stole a page from Gwen's spellbook, he used it to open a portal into Legerdomain. Charmcaster opened the door and found Darkstar. She brought him to Legerdomain and reverted him from his energy-deprived affliction. They started fighting together, seeing what they could do, she later kissed him, unaware that when she did so, he fed off her mana.

Charmcaster later found him in front of the Door to Anywhere again, He wanted to leave Legerdomain to destroy his enemies, so Charmcaster told him her name was Hope, that names have power and wrote Legerdomain's secret true name on Michael's hand so he could return at any time. Gwen cut off the mana Michael stole, so he returned to Legerdomain to feed off of Charmcaster's mana again. However, Ben, Gwen, and Kevin followed him back to Legerdomain, where Gwen and Charmcaster fought.

Gwen tried to tell Charmcaster that Michael wasn't actually in love with her and was just using her for her mana, but Charmcaster refused to listen. When Charmcaster realized Gwen knew Michael's name, she asked Gwen how she knew. Gwen admitted that she had once dated Michael. Charmcaster was furious. She and Gwen watched Ben and Kevin fight Michael, but when Darkstar mentioned that his ambition was to take over the world, and have "lovely Gwen" for a trophy, Charmcaster was furious. Though Michael claimed to love Charmcaster, she did not believe him, and asked Michael if he even remembered her name, at which he could only guess, having previously not paid attention. Charmcaster screamed and took back the mana which he fed on. She forcibly evicted him from Legerdomain, Darkstar, meanwhile, continued guessing, but the doors to Legerdomain remained closed.

In Mystery, Incorporeal, after he tried to absorb Gwen and open a portal to Legerdomain, Charmcaster disguised herself as a cop and arrested Michael. Michael called her "sweetie" and asked if she was still mad at him. Charmcaster responded by turning him into a stone totem, implying she still hasn't forgiven him for his previous romantic deception towards her.

WtMH (311)

Gwen and Charmcaster teaming up

Charmcaster developed a grudge against Gwen in the Original Series, because Gwen stole her spellbook[3] and learned magic easily.[10]

In Alien Force, Charmcaster exacted her revenge on Gwen by kissing Kevin and subsequently putting his mind under her control.[1]

Their relationship in Ultimate Alien initially did not change, until Where the Magic Happens, when Charmcaster teamed up with the team in Legerdomain. The two bonded through their experiences and combining of their powers, with Gwen coming to sympathize with Charmcaster when learning of her origins.

In Enemy of My Frenemy, the team returned to Legerdomain to help Charmcaster. However, Charmcaster's long time trapped in Legerdomain had corrupted her, and she temporarily killed Ben, Gwen, and Kevin to resurrect Spellbinder. When Spellbinder refused to come back to life at the expense of others, she became saddened by that, and her life became empty and lonely. Gwen let Charmcaster go rather than have her apprehended, revealing she didn't hold a grudge against her for her betrayal afterwards, but instead felt even more sorry for her and worried about how she would be able to move on after this trauma. This pity was maintained in Couples Retreat, where Gwen was very concerned about Charmcaster's well-being when Charmcaster fell in love with Darkstar and tried desperately to convince her that Darkstar was merely using her for her power. At the end, the two had a truce and Charmcaster gave Darkstar over to Gwen to beat up.

In Omniverse, Gwen first saw her in Charm School, where she attended class with her, conducted by Hex. Charmcaster wasn't there to go after Gwen though, but her uncle Hex. She double crossed Hex and turned him into a totem in order to claim the Staff of Ages. Gwen tried to talk some sense into her, telling her that she was not a bad person but was damaged and needed help, which started a magical battle between the two sorceresses. Gwen was overpowered by Charmcaster and was tired. They had a long fight around the university until the team of Ben, Kevin, Rook and Zed helped to lead her to the library. Gwen holding the Hex totem in the library allowed her to become more powerful and she sent Charmcaster and Hex to Legerdomain.

In Third Time's a Charm, Charmcaster turned Gwen into a totem and put her in her bag with Addwaitya, Darkstar and Hex. Gwen managed to use Charmcaster's lipstick to draw in her bag. Ben tricked Charmcaster (who had turned into a dragon) into touching the magic in her bag and was turned into a totem. Gwen, Hex, Darkstar, Bezel and Addwaitya were free, with Darkstar being arrested but Addwaitya escaping. Gwen kept Charmcaster, who was now inside her own bag, in her room. Gwen happily said that under these circumstances of Charmcaster being rendered harmless, she and Charmcaster could finally become friends, as she patted the bag with Charmcaster in it fondly.

Charmcaster kissing Kevin

In In Charm's Way, Charmcaster used a spell that transformed her into a blonde teenage girl named Caroline as part of her plan to charm and hypnotize Kevin. She and Kevin journeyed to the beach where she revealed a partially false life story while removing the ID Mask that concealed Kevin's mutant form, clearly growing jealous of Gwen when Kevin mentioned "You think you can do magic? She's made of magic". She then kissed him, putting him under her hypnotic influence through a spell, and then ordered him to bring Gwen to the planetarium before midnight where she could drain Gwen's magical and Anodite powers. To fortify or deepen her hypnotic control over Kevin, she also granted him a magic amulet. Kevin was broken free from Charmcaster's influence spell after the amulet was broken by Ben.

Kevin thinks Charmcaster is hot and was attracted to her while in disguise. However, she never liked him and was just taunting him.[DM 5]

After this incident, Kevin and Charmcaster were mostly enemies, with Kevin disliking Charmcaster until he learned just how similar they are. He initially attempted to brush this empathy off, but when Gwen trapped Charmcaster in her own bag and kept her under the goal of becoming friends with her, Kevin seemed relieved, knowing firsthand how Gwen can help change a person.[11]

Trivia[]

  • From Alien Force onwards, Charmcaster is in possession of the Staff of Ages. As stated in the Original Series, only a master magician can use it. This implies that she has become a master magician.
  • Charmcaster is the only villain to have successfully killed Ben, Gwen, and Kevin, although it wasn't permanent.[6]
    • However, she wasn't the first to kill Ben, the first was Vilgax.[12]
  • Four of Charmcaster's episodic appearances have titles that are a pun on her name.
  • Charmcaster is one of the few villains that has appeared in all four series of the Classic Continuity as well as the reboot, the others being Vilgax, Dr. Animo, and Hex.
  • Both Kevin and Charmcaster were created specifically to be foils for Ben and Gwen, to reflect more personal conflicts within them based around their youth, and who would gradually shift from villains to anti-heroes.[DR 1]
  • Charmcaster's original design, seen on the Ben 10: The Complete Season 3 DVD looked just like the one that was actually used except her coat was red instead of purple, her hair black instead of white, and with paintings on her face that made her resemble Hex.
    • Thomas Perkins, her designer, states that his original intent with the character was to base her clothing off of a totemic fox motif. As to her ethnicity, in the script, nothing specific was called for, so he thought he would see if he could suggest adding a bit of diversity.[TP 1]
  • In the Omniverse Future Timeline, Charmcaster is married to Hobble.[DJW 5]
  • Geoffrey Thorne considers Charmcaster his favorite Ben 10 character and repeatedly brought up the possibility of a spin-off series for her. He does not see her as someone evil, only broken or troubled. He was disappointed when she was portrayed as evil in her later appearances.[GT 1][GT 2]
