Vulpimancers,[1][2] also known as Megamutts,[3][2] are an animalistic species from the planet Vulpin.[merch 1]
Their evolved counterparts are Evolved Vulpimancers.
Appearance[]
Vulpimancers are animalistic beings with canine paws, curving claws, and quills that grow on their backs. Their most notable feature is that they have no visible eyes, and instead have gill-like nostrils on the sides of their necks. A Vulpimancer's size ranges from an adult human to several times larger. As they mature, they grow tails.
Vulpimancers commonly have orange fur, though they can come in other colors such as greyish blue, red or brownish red. As they reach adulthood, Vulpimancers gain stripes on their backs.
Vulpimancers from Vulpin have dog-like mouths with matching teeth and tongues, whereas Vulpimancers from the Null Void have more unearthly mouths with worm-like tongue, chapped lips, and four large fangs.
Young Vulpimancers have quill-like fur, which becomes straighter when they mature. This excludes the chin hair on Vulpimancers from Vulpin.
Language[]
Vulpimancers do have a language, but it is too difficult for Universal Translators to translate and they are unable to speak English.[DM 1] In fact, they lack the vocal anatomy to speak.[DJW 1] There is a special translator that can translate their language, but it is not as portable.[DM 2]
Behavior[]
“ | Vulpimancers never were big on small talk, even with their own kind. | ” |
– Max after Wildmutt failed to communicate with Vulpimancers.[2] |
From what has been shown, Vulpimancers are very irritable and not very cooperative, even amongst themselves.[2] Despite this, Vulpimancers seem to prefer hunting in groups.[2][4][5]
Vulpimancers whine like dogs when scared.[6]
Powers and Abilities[]
A Vulpimancer's main ability is their sense of smell. As they have no eyes, their "vision" is made up of a dull 3D mapping of where their senses originate, similar to a thermograph.[7] Combined with their enhanced hearing,[2][8] their senses take the form of a radar or sonar, allowing them to still perceive their environment more clearly. Vulpimancers can sense invisible entities with their enhanced senses, therefore making invisibility useless against them.[9]
Vulpimancers can track almost anything and anyone just by their scent.[10]
Vulpimancer possess razor-sharp teeth and claws, the latter of which they can use to climb vertical surfaces.[11]
Vulpimancer have enhanced strength, as Wildmutt could tear apart one of Vilgax's Mechadroids with ease,[7] throw a dumpster at a group of Limax,[12] and tear off the roof of a car at age 10.[13] By age 16, Wildmutt is strong enough to carry a Florauna on his back without difficulty (even while running),[14] hold his own against a Buglizard,[8] and pin down a Merlinisapien.[9]
Vulpimancers are durable enough to survive a steel tower falling on top of them and jump through a glass window.[13][15][9]
A Vulpimancer's enhanced speed and reaction time allows them to dodge, evade, and counterattack effortlessly with the help of their senses. They exceed that of a cheetah.[DR 1]
Vulpimancers have enhanced agility that allows them to run, jump, and climb at an inhuman rate. They are highly acrobatic and gymnastic, with such movements being similar to that of an ape.[16]
Vulpimancers can dig deep craters at a fast speed, even while digging through solid stone ground.[17]
Vulpimancers can survive in hazardous, sub-zero temperature environments, such as those on Vulpin.[merch 2][merch 3] This allows them to break through ice easily if frozen solid, as demonstrated by other Vulpimancers in the Null Void.[4]
Because of how they do not see in the conventional sense, Vulpimancers are not afraid of Toepick's species.[DJW 2]
Vulpimancers are a quadruped. However, they are capable of standing on their hind legs.[16] In addition, their feet are prehensile, as Wildmutt caught Gwen with his foot as she was about to be sucked into space.[18]
The porcupine-like quills on a Vulpimancer's back supplement their sonar and can also serve as weapons, such as projectiles that can be fired off at will. However, they can only do this when they reach adulthood.[pop-up 1][19]
Weaknesses[]
Vulpimancers cannot talk in human languages. Instead, they communicate through a combination of barking and snarling. Due to this, it is extremely difficult for anyone to understand them.
A Vulpimancer's higher hearing range can be taken advantage of, as high frequency noises like a Sonic Pitch Whistle[2] or a Zaroffian's whistle[8] can overwhelm their senses and stun them.
Vulpimancers are implied to be vulnerable to fire, as shown with some other Vulpimancers when they were repelled by Swampfire's fire.[4]
When infected with a cold, a Vulpimancer's nostrils (on the sides of his neck) get blocked by mucus, making them unable to smell or hear and rendering them essentially "blind".[20]

Trivia[]
- Thomas Perkins believes that the Vulpimancers from the Null Void who appeared in Truth are an older/mature version of the Vulpin Vulpimancers. He does not know if gender differences were mentioned during the Original Series' run.[TP 1]
