– Chamalien trying out his test name.[1] |
Chamalien[2] (alternatively spelled as ChamAlien)[FB 1] is the Omnitrix's DNA sample of a Merlinisapien[3][1] from an unknown planet.
Appearance[]
Ben as Chamalien[]
Chamalien has a slim body that resembles a large purple salamander with darker purple camo-esque spots all over his body and a short tail. He wears a black helmet[DJW 1] with three triangular colored lenses, the left one being blue, the right red and the middle green, which hide his three eyes. The helmet also has spike-shaped fin on the back of his head. He has four-fingered hands and three toes on his frog-like feet. He also has a wide mouth with sharp teeth.
Chamalien wears the Ultimatrix symbol on his chest.
Albedo as Negative Chamalien[]
Negative Chamalien looks just like Ben's Chamalien, except all of his eyes are red and he lacks an Ultimatrix symbol.
Powers and Abilities[]
Chamalien's main ability is his camouflage, as he is capable of blending in with the color of his surroundings with such effectiveness that he appears invisible.
Chamalien is very agile, quick, flexible, and can climb walls and crawl on the ground with ease.[4] He also has teeth and claws which are sharp enough to damage Exo-Skull's armor, as demonstrated by Subdora.[5]
Chamalien has a long, retractable black stinger that can come out of the tip of his tail; this feat was exclusively demonstrated by Prisoner 775.[1]
Chamalien has enhanced strength, enough to push a car and a huge truck several yards away and defeat a Vulpimancer in battle. He is also durable enough to withstand being thrown against a car; both of these feats were also only demonstrated by Prisoner 775.[1]
Chamalien's body is highly slippery and smooth, making him very difficult to grab.[1]
Weaknesses[]
Although Chamalien appears to turn invisible when he camouflages himself, he actually just changes his color. Consequently, his shadow can still be seen, and any place filled with too many bright lights can be a disadvantage, as demonstrated with Prisoner 775.[1]
Chamalien can easily be tracked by Vulpimancers using their enhanced senses, as demonstrated with Prisoner 775 and Subdora.[1][6] He can also be tracked by Anodites through his mana.[7]
Chamalien's camouflage can also be rendered useless if he is either carrying something or coated in another material such as powder[6] or oil,[8] as demonstrated with Subdora.
Chamalien can be controlled and hypnotized by Vladats via their Corrupturas, as also demonstrated with Subdora.[5]
Chamalien can be frozen by a Necrofriggian's ice breath, as also demonstrated with Subdora.[9]

Etymology[]
Chamalien's name is portmanteau of "chameleon", an animal capable of changing its color, which alludes to his ability to camouflage himself, and "alien", a reference to Chamalien being an extraterrestrial life form, as well as a transformation.
Trivia[]
- Chamalien speaks with a light German accent.
- When Ben first transformed into Chamalien, he named the form Overkill as a joke.[1] In Night of the Living Nightmare, his name Chamalien was first mentioned, albeit in Albedo's nightmare, meaning his real name has never been acknowledged by Ben himself.
- When asked what kinds of features Chamalien's helmet has, Derrick J. Wyatt compared the spectrum-wide visions to those found in helmets worn by Yautja.[DJW 2]
- Chamalien was revealed in a picture released on the Ben 10 Facebook page on April 17, 2011, as a reward for hitting 1,000,000 fans.[FB 1]
- Chamalien had concept art drawn by Glen Murakami. His final design was created by Glenn Wong, with color styling by Chris Hooten.[GW 1]
- In Universe vs. Tennyson, it was initially planned that Ben would use Chamalien to spy on Chadzmuth,[DJW 3] but the whole scene was eventually dropped as the story was changed.[DJW 4]
- As a result of this, Chamalien and Fasttrack are the only regular aliens introduced in Ultimate Alien who do not appear in Omniverse.
- Had Chamalien appeared in Omniverse, Derrick would have chosen Dee Bradley Baker to reprise his role.[DJW 5]
- There were no plans to feature Chamalien in the reboot.[DR 1]
Notes[]
- ↑ In Prisoner Number 775 is Missing, the Ultimatrix stated that the Merlinisapien DNA sample was recognized and unlocked, indicating that Merlinisapien DNA was already present in the watch. However, according to Dwayne McDuffie, when the Ultimatrix actively scanned an alien, it was obtaining a new sample, and it only passively scanned aliens it had already seen.[DM 1] This indicates that Merlinisapien DNA was added to the Codon Stream in the episode itself.
